The grand finale of the Oktoberfest shall of course be the Das Boot Drinking Tournament. Full details, additional events and festival programme shall be announced shortly.

SEPTEMBER 2012 DETAILS
This month, T.L.R. is proud to host not only some of the finest local talent but guest artists from all over India and abroad as well: Suckafish P Jones (Australia/Spain), Rhythm Method (Mumbai), Snowshoe (Mumbai), Moodyboy (Mumbai), Varnika Kundu (Chandigarh).

SAT 01/09 – DISCO 31 feat. DJ MOODYBOY (TRIBAL HOUSE)
On this edition of Disco 31, we present to you one of the truest veterans and unsung heros of the Indian electronica scene, Moodyboy. Based in Mumbai, Moodyboy’s career spans almost two decades as a DJ and producer. In his early days, he even worked with the likes of Gaurav Raina of Midival Punditz. Back then, Tribal House reigned supreme back then and Moodyboy was an integral part of the scene. In recent years, we have seen a resurgence of Tribal House in more modern format via the likes of major European club stars like Riva Starr and Gregor Salto. Accordingly, Moodyboy has been busy in the studio again, releasing track after track that would fit in seamlessly at Ibiza or Goa. Disco 31 co-founder & host DJ Su Real will also be on board to guide the night to heady excesses!

THU 06/09 – TARIK (LIVE A/V BAND) + DHRUV VISVANATH (FOLK ROCK)
Tarik was a lounge samba orchestra on their way to the Rio Sheraton that was hijacked by affinity groups and led to perform for them at their audio visual opium den. The visual material is gathered from local spaces in town (tea stalls, local bars, brothels, traditional markets, etc) that complement the musical content. Opening the evening will be Dhruv Visvanath, an Acoustic Percussive Guitarist, playing smooth melodies on the guitar whilst simultaneously drumming on the body of the guitar. India’s very own Andy Mckee, and he sings too!

FRI 07/09 – JATIN PURI (ELECTRONICA) + WHITE RABBIT (ELECTRO)
Influenced by trip-hop, breakbeat, hip-hop, bass and even pop, Jatin Puri’s eclectic sound defies easy classification. His catchy and thoughtful tracks are all self-produced, composed, performed and sung. Within his short career, Puri has released two albums, his latest being ‘Purify’, provided scores for short films and played countless gigs across the country with more notable shows taking place at last years Bacardi NH7 Weekender and this years Holi Cow Festival. More recently, the Delhi-based artist won the award for Best Music Video at the International Songwriting Competition (ISC) for ‘Life is Good’. The video was shot in Hauz Khas Village last year and features local Bboys from the Slumgods Crew. The judging panel for the competition was an impressive mix of iconic artists such as Tom Waits, Ozzy Osbourne and Tori Amos alongside five record label presidents and other industry leaders. On this night, J.P. is joined by close pal and Disco 31 regular DJ White Rabbit for added oomph-oomph!

SAT 08/09 – DISCO 31 feat. VARNIKA KUNDU (TECH HOUSE)
On this edition of Disco 31, Varnika Kundu our featured guest hails from Chandigarh where she has been DJ’ing furious sets of the latest Dutch House, Techno and Electro that would blow most male DJ’s off their decks in the nation’s capital! The first mixer Kundu ever used was built for her by her father when she was just 13 years old. Although she only committed to DJ’ing as a career last year, she has already performed in Germany and the U.K. Disco 31 co-founder & host DJ Su Real will also be on board to guide the night to heady excesses!

THU 13/09 – SHASHWAT PANDE (FOLK ROCK) + SANCHAL MALHAR (INDIGO CHILDREN)
Fans of folk rock music like Bob Dylan, Nick Drake and Robert Johnson should not miss this night! Shashwat Pande is a relatively new name in the Delhi singer-songwriter space, but he’s already mesmerised T.L.R. twice in the last few months and we couldn’t wait to bring him back again! After some brief stints with a few of Delhi’s well known rock and metal bands, Shashwat has now ventured into an acoustic blues-man format, writing and performing predominantly original material. Joining us on the support slot this evening is Sanchal Malhar, lead singer and guitarist of Indian indie-rock powerhouse Superfuzz/Indigo Children. Sanchal has graced many festival main-stages in India and abroad but is now developing his solo repertoire and by all reports this intimate performance by the critically acclaimed and charismatic rocker will only deepen his already broad appeal to the new wave of Indian rockers.

His style is wild, fusing the bass heavy sensibilities of sound system culture with tropical electronics and savage beatsmithery. Elements of UK Bass, Hip Hop, Cumbia and international obscura splinter throughout his borderless, high octane sound. One thing is always sure, the results will surprise, delight and above all, vibrate.Think Global, Listen Local – Imported Goods is a trans-national movement to spread music from the farthest corners of the globe, tearing down geographic borders and encouraging communal harmony through music and culture. The Indian ambassadors of this movement are DJ Mo City and DJ Su Real, both having played a key role in introducing new genres to the Indian dancefloor in recent years.

The group has performed live at the January 2012 Rolling Stone Jack Daniel’s Annual Rock Awards show and been featured in the UK Guardian as well as local mainstream radio Hit 95FM. Were a band like this to be unleashed in the rock & roll heartlands of U.S.A. they could fit in seamlessly with the production output of supergroup creators like Butch Vig and Steve Albini.

One of Germany’s most esteemed cultural outputs is of course Techno music, whose propulsive, driving rhythms were inspired by the rhythms of driving on the Autobahn, the fastest highway in the world cutting right through the heartlands of Germany. Two of New Delhi’s leading EDM acts, Teddyboykill and Hasback Hashish, have both been influenced by German electronic music and helped to popularize the sound in India. It’s only appropriate that they join forces to explore this territory with an explosive Techno-fueled joyride for Oktoberfest!

THU 04/10 – BIG BANG BLUES (SOUL EXPLOSION) *OKTOBERFEST*
Formed in 2009, Big Bang Blues takes its spirit from the times when Blues was born. Fathered by voices that sang of angst and misery, backed by rusty stringed guitars and harps. With a belief that they are part of that ancestry, learners and disciples of Blues prophets like Muddy Waters, BB King, Clapton, Janis Joplin, amongst others, Big Bang blues is a part of the evolution of the genre beyond blues to include Jazz, R&B & Rock. Having played at TLR a number of times in their early days, the expansive line-up returns to the TLR stage with fresh material and a crystallized sound. The line-up includes Ipshita Roy (Vocals), Shivam Khare (Keyboards), Sushant Thakur (Guitars), Rahul Senguupta (Drums), Devang Baheti (Bass & Backing Vocals), Kapil Chhetri (Guitars, Slide & Harp).
